Of course the first thing you can do is to sort by the "Intelligence" column to browse nominations, if there are any. This is a good way for a beginner to start.
Manual Filters (Russell Picks):
Again, different people, different filters- but these should give you some insight:
If your market warrants it, a "high standard" criteria for long tail selection is:
|
Keyword contains Search Engine Proven Synonym (long tail) Traffic greater than 0. (zero)
Keyword is neither Theme Subordinate to Keyword NOR Tangent Theme.
|

Fast Long Tail Filter Very Low Keyword contains Search Engine Proven Synonym (long tail) Any Traffic
Keyword is neither Theme Subordinate to Keyword NOR Tangent Theme.

Still no luck? Try an alternative approach:
|
Keyword contains Search Engine Proven Synonym (long tail) Either hand pick thru all long tails (if there are any) and: Click the LTI column header to select the highest Long Tail Index terms
In general, anything above 8,000 LTI is worth your attention. Anything lower than that should can be used when the previous fast filters have returned poor results in your market. Keyword is neither Theme Subordinate to Keyword NOR Tangent Theme

Expert Verbiage priority 1, 2, 3
If you have need to use low quality filters, you are probably in an "expert verbiage" driven market, which is not a good sign if you are still at the PROJECT level.
Drilling deeper, you will find the 'pickins' get more slim. Be aware that you are in an expert verbiage market.
You probably want to expand to a broader topic or theme within this niche.
When there are no long tail keyword:
The absence of long tails can mean a couple of things.
The topic you have chosen is highly specialized and is not used much outside of its own context.
It could also mean that the topic you are drilling into is already an expert verbiage topic.
(Basically the same thing)
Again, try broadening your Theme and performing a VMAD on a larger market segment.
